A successful seminar on “Awareness of Medicinal Herbal Plants and Their Uses” was conducted on 16th May 2025 for the students and teachers of J/Kaithady Nunavil Government Tamil Mixed College. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 21 boys, 26 girls from grade 6, 7, 8,9,10 &11 and 5 teachers.
The program was organized by the Department of Gunapadam, Faculty of Siddha Medicine. It was conducted during the academic field hours of 2nd BSMS students guided by academic staff and temporary demonstrators of department of Gunapadam.
The seminar commenced at 8:30 AM and concluded at 12:00 PM. The first session took place in the herbal garden within the faculty premises, where participants were introduced to a variety of 500 species of medicinal herbal plants and the net house which contain 200 species of hill station plants and the sales center, focusing on plant identification, medicinal properties, and traditional home remedies.
Following this, herbal porridge was distributed to the school students and teachers. Then, the session was continued with a PowerPoint presentation, during which the 39th batch Siddha medical students – Mr. Dilshan, Miss Muthahhara, Miss Suwathy and Miss Hafsa – with the support of the whole batch, delivered informative talks on the health benefits of tropical fruits, cereals, and spinaches, highlighting their role in improving the quality of life through simple and effective home remedies and flowers and stress management. About 10 herbarium sheets for each system were explained by Miss. Maheeza, Miss. Pearlthree and Miss. Nasrin and dry herbs were exhibited and explained by Miss. Kifa, Miss Mafasa and Miss. Rakshana
The awareness programme was concluded with the distribution of medicinal herbal
nursery plants to all student and teacher participants. The seminar was guided by Dr.(Mrs.) N.Nithiyakumar, Dr.(Mrs.)V. Sathiyaseelan, Mr, J. Eugin Benat Mr. A.Sanjayan, Miss.T.Sharsaayini, Miss.V.Gumuthagini and Miss. A. Mayoori.
