  • EDUCATIONAL TOUR 2024

    38th BSMS students were taken to educational tour according to curriculum for four days, during vacation from 2nd April 2024 to 6th April 2024. 51 students from 2nd BSMS had visited the herbal garden along with three academic staff. The government herbal garden visited during the tour are as follows:

    1. Haldummulla Govt.Herbal garden
    2. Pattipola Govt. Herbal garden
    3. Diyathalawa Govt. hospital and garden under Uva province
    4. Giranthirukottee Govt. Herbal garden

    Students gain knowledge on identification of different hill station plants, culture techniques, storage techniques, nursery preparation and herbarium. In Halldummulla they observed more than 180 different plant species and also 134 different variety of seeds. In pattipola they observed 52 different types of hill station plants. In Diyathalawa they observed different natural treatment methods along with plant identification. In Giranthirukottee they observed 130 different plant species.

    Students benefitted through different plant identification, cultivation technique, storage technique of medicinal plants. Thus this educational tour provides a good platform and exposure to our students.

  • Pongalvizha 2024

    The Pongal Vizha organized by the Siddha Medical Students Union was a vibrant celebration that encompassed traditional customs, games, and warm hospitality. The event commenced with the preparation of Pongal, a cherished ritual embodying the spirit of gratitude and abundance, followed by the worship of deities, adding a spiritual dimension to the proceedings.

    In addition to these customs, various traditional games, such as “mutti udaiththal,” “maadukku kan vaithal,” and “musical chairs,” were organized, infusing the gathering with the joy of play and traditional revelry.

    As a thoughtful gesture to enhance the event, attendees were treated to refreshments in the form of milk rice and juice, providing nourishment and complementing the festive atmosphere.

    Overall, the Pongal Vizha encapsulated the essence of community, tradition, and conviviality, reflecting the Siddha Medical Students Union’s commitment to fostering a rich cultural experience for all participants.

  • பொங்கல் விழா – 2024

    21/01/2024, ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை காலை 8.30 மணிக்கு எமது சித்த மருத்துவ அலகில் பொங்கல் விழா நடைபெறவுள்ளது. இவ்விழாவில் எமது அலகில் உள்ள ஸ்ரீ சித்த விநாயகர் ஆலயத்திற்கு முன்பாக இடம்பெறவுள்ள பொங்கல் நிகழ்வில் கலந்து கொண்டு, தொடர்ந்து நடைபெறவுள்ள மாணவர்களின் கலாச்சார விளையாட்டுக்களையும் கண்டுகளிக்குமாறு கேட்டுக்கொள்கின்றோம்.

  • Medical camp

    சித்த போதனா வைத்தியசாலையும் சித்த மருத்துவ அலகின் குழந்தை மற்றும் மகளிர் மருத்துவ பிரிவும் இணைந்து 04.01.2024 அகத்தியர் தின நான்காம் நாள் நிகழ்வாக ஒழுங்கு செய்யப்பட்ட பெண்களுக்கான விழிப்புணர்வு கருத்தரங்கும் மருத்துவ முகாமும் சாவாகச்சேரி பிரதேச செயலகத்தில் நடைபெற்றது.

  • Field Visits

    Second BSMS STUDENTS visited to the following places for identifying medicinal plants under the supervision of lectures, Medical officers, traditional doctors and Demonstrators. Around 150 medicinal, rare, redlisted and endermic plants were identified in this visit.

  • Agasthiyar Day Celebration-I

    The Agasthiyar Day celebration organized by the Siddha Medical Students Association was a well-attended and successful event. The primary activities included a speech competition focusing on Agasthiyar, special poojas dedicated to Agasthiyar, and the preparation of pongal as an offering.

    Speech Competition:

    The speech competition was a key highlight of the event, where participants shared their knowledge about Agasthiyar. The presentations delved into the life, teachings, and contributions of Agasthiyar to Siddha medicine and spirituality. The competition provided a platform for students to showcase their understanding of Agasthiyar’s significance and role in the field of Siddha medicine.

    Special Poojas:

    The organization of special poojas dedicated to Agasthiyar added a spiritual dimension to the celebration. The poojas were conducted with reverence and devotion, honoring Agasthiyar for his wisdom and guidance in the practice of Siddha medicine. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of reverence and piety as the participants came together to pay homage to Agasthiyar.

    Preparation of Pongal:

    As part of the offering to Agasthiyar, traditional pongal was prepared. This act symbolized the gratitude and respect towards Agasthiyar, whose teachings and practices continue to influence Siddha medicine. The preparation of pongal was a way of expressing gratitude and seeking blessings for the well-being and prosperity of all those associated with Siddha medicine.

    Overall, the Agasthiyar Day celebration was a significant event that brought together the Siddha medical community to commemorate the legacy of Agasthiyar. The activities organized not only highlighted the reverence for Agasthiyar but also served as a means to strengthen the bond within the Siddha medical fraternity. This celebration further emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the traditional wisdom and practices of Siddha medicine for the benefit of humanity.

    Agasthiyar Day Celebration-II

    The Janana day of Sage Akasthiyar is celebrated as Siddha day. It was celebrated on 30th December 2023 at Unit of Siddha Medicine. Special Pooja also arranged by the Academic staff of USM at Sivapoomi Thiruvasaka Aranmanai from 09.00 to 12.00.

  • அகத்தியர் தின விழா-2023

    நாளைய தினம் ( 30/12/2023, சனிக்கிழமை ) காலை 9 மணியிலிருந்து மதியம் 12 மணிவரை அகத்தியரின் ஜனன தினத்தை முன்னிட்டு நடைபெறவுள்ள அகத்தியர் தின விழாவில் எமது அலகில் உள்ள அகத்தியரின் திருவுருவச்சிலைக்கு முன்பாக இடம்பெறவுள்ள பொங்கல் நிகழ்விலும், தொடர்ந்து நடைபெறவுள்ள மாணவர்களின் பேச்சுப் போட்டியிலும் கலந்து கொள்ளுமாறு கேட்டுக்கொள்கின்றோம்.

    டிசம்பர் 25ம் திகதி பாலகர் இயேசு பிறப்பிற்காக கொண்டாடப்படும் கிறிஸ்மஸ் பண்டிகையை முன்னிட்டு யாழ்ப்பாணப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் சித்த மருத்துவ அலகில் ஒளிவிழா நிகழ்வுகள் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தன. அந்த வகையில் 2023.12.12 அன்று “Christmas Card Making” போட்டியும் 2023.12.14 அன்று “Christmas Tree Making” போட்டியும் 2023.12.15 அன்று “Carol Song Competition” போட்டியும் நாடாத்தப்பட்டன.இப்போட்டிகளுக்குரிய வெற்றியாளர்கள் நடுவர்கள் மூலம் தெரிவு செய்யப்பட்டனர். 2023.12.15 அன்று ஒளிவிழாவிற்கான கலாச்சார நிகழ்வுகள் மாலை 4.30 மணியளவில் சித்த மருத்துவ அலகின் கேட்போர்கூடத்தில் ஒழுங்கு செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தது. இந்நிகழ்வில் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக Rev.Fr.S.Arul Sutharson OMI அவர்களும் துறைத்தலைவர், பெரும்பொருளாளர், மாணவர் ஆலோசகர், சிரேஷ்ட விரிவுரையாளர்கள், உதவி விரிவுரையாளர்கள், செயன்முறை வழிகாட்டுனர்கள், கல்விசாரா ஊழியர்கள் மற்றும் மாணவர்கள் கலந்து சிறப்பித்தனர்.

  • World’s Diabetic Day

    On behalf of World Diabetic Day 2023, exhibition on diabetic was conducted at unit of Siddha medicine  University of Jaffna on 2nd December 2023, Saturday from 9.00a.m to 12.30p.m
    For this exhibition altogether 51 beneficiaries from public including Kaithady – elders home members,Jaffna diabetic Association members  had visited and benefited from this event.
    Our Gunapadam department have actively participated and created awareness to the public through  PowerPoint presentation, banners  and by exhibiting nurseries of medicinal plants used in diabetic disorder. About 40  different species of Green Leaves are exhibited as nurseries and explained about their valuable uses. Some medicinal plants useful in treatment of diabeties are also exhibited and explained with simple home remedies. Dry herbs were also exhibited. Diet Regimen based on medicinal plants was also explained to the public to promote their healthy life. This Program was organised by gunapadam department lecturers and guided by demonstrators for the 38th BSMS students. The program was successful.

    The Unit of Siddha Medicine organized an awareness program on Neerilivu during the celebration of World Diabetic at Unit of Siddha Medicine on 06th December 2023 from 09.00 am to 01.00 pm. The Proposed Department of Noi Naadal Chikitchai were contributed to the awareness, and 04 lecturers and one Assistant lecturer guided the students prepare for the awareness program. 10 students from the third BSMS, 15 students from the fourth BSMS and 10 students from Final BSMS actively contributed to the awareness of Noi Naadal Chikitchai section. The awareness were given through Power Point presentation, video presentation and discussion with the audience. More than 50 patients were benefited through this program.
    The following matters were included in the awareness program.

    1. Introduction about Neerilivu, causes, clincal features, warning signs in un-identified Neerilivu, complications of Neerilivu
    2. Management for Neerilivu were explained with simple home remedies.
    3. Food pattern for Neerilivu

    The Proposed Department of Noi Naadal Chikitchai, Unit of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna organized an awareness program on Neerilivu during the celebration of World Diabetic at State Elders’ Home, Kaithady on 14th November 2023 from 09.00 am to 12.30 pm. 04 lecturers and 45 students from third to final BSMS students participated in the program. Over 50 senior citizens were benefited through this program.
    The following matters were included in the awareness program.

    1. Introduction about Neerilivu, causes, clincal features, warning signs in un-identified Neerilivu, complications of Neerilivu
    2. Management for Neerilivu were explained with simple home remedies.
    3. Food pattern for Neerilivu
    4. Simple exercises for Neerilivu
    5. Relaxation exercises

    Samooka nala mruthuvam of Unit of Siddha Medicine has conducted awareness program on “Diabetes and Traditional foods” at unit of Siddha Medicine University of Jaffna on 2nd of December 2023 for the world diabetic week 2023. Different varieties of rice, small milletes, cereals, fruits and vegetables, Palmyra products, deiry products and medicinaly important yams were dexhibitted there.Benifits of these foods , preparation of foods and how these foods prevent or control the Diabetes were explained by the BSMS students .

  • Medical camp in Sarasalai

    Proposed Department of Noi Naadal Chikitchai organized a medical camp with Chavakacheri Pradeshya Sabha on September 12, 2023, from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm at the Pradeshya Sabha Library in Sarasalai. Twenty students from the fourth and final BSMS attended the medical camp along with three lecturers and nine demonstrators. Approximately 35 patients received treatment. Additionally, advice and awareness were given to the patients. From the Himalaya Drug Company, certain significant medications were given out.
