  • WORLD DIABETES DAY – 2025 AWARENESS PROGRAM AT MOOLAI CO- OPERATIVE HOSPITAL

    The Diabetes Awareness Program was jointly organized by the Department of Samooga Nala Maruthuvam, FOSM, UOJ, and Diabetic centre Moolai Co-operative Hospital on 16th of November 2025 from 9.00 AM to 1.30 PM. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, followed by a Siddhar vanakka paadal rendered by the Ist BSMS students Ms.V.Dalshika and Ms.P.ThuruziyaSubsequently, the welcome address was delivered by the Moolai Co-operative Hospital matron Mr.S.Giritharan formally marking the beginning of the program. The keynote address was delivered by the Dr.K.Partheepan, secretary of Moolai Co-operative Hospital.

    Following this, a detailed presentation was conducted on the causes of diabetes, the methods
    for testing blood glucose levels, and the measures to effectively control blood glucose levels by
    the Dr.G.Sambavi Medical officer, Moolai Co-operative Hospital. After that, an awareness role
    play on diabetes and its complications was performed by the nursing officers, Moolai Co
    operative Hospital. Following this, Dr.T.Thayalini, Senior lecturer and Head of the Dept, Samooga Nala Maruthuvam, FOSM, UOJ delivered an informative Presentation session on diabetes control &
    prevention through the inclusion of small millets in the diet. Next, the awareness program continued with a Ist BSMS student Mr.Barathkrishna’s presentation, which included a detailed explanation on diabetes control and prevention through the use of medicinal herbs in day to day diet plan. A valuable and impactful diabetes awareness drama on “FOOD IS MEDICINE” was thoughtfully performed by the Ist BSMS students, effectively conveying key messages on diabetes prevention and management through healthy life style.

    After that, a detailed demonstration was conducted by the Dr.T.Janany , Siddha medical officer
    and the 4th BSMS students Ms.B.Sruthi, Ms.E.Nivoncy & Ms.R.Rasmini on special yoga asanas,
    breathing exercises, and therapeutic mudras that help in the control and prevention of diabetes.
    The event also featured an effective exhibition of small millets and millet-based products,
    organized by the Palluer millet processing and value-added units.

    A brief explanation of the diabetes control & prevention through the inclusion of small millets in the diet and health benefits of these products was provided to the audience by the,4th BSMS students under the guidance of demonstrator Ms.A.Anushiyaa FOSM,UOJ along with the distribution of leaflets containing simple small millets based diet recipes. A brief explanation and exhibition of medicinal plants used for the control and prevention of diabetes, presented by the Ist BSMS students under the guidance of demonstrators Ms.T.Vithuja & Ms.P.Shabika. Finally the event concluded with vote of thanks delivered by the Dr.Brunthaban, Medical officer, Moolai Co-operative Hospital.

  • SATTAIMUNI SIDDHAR GURUPOOJA CELEBRATION –

    Sattaimuni Siddhar Gurupooja celebration: 15th of September 2025
    Venue : Sri Siddhi Vinayagar Temple, Faculty of Siddha Medicine.
    Sattaimuni Siddhar is an ancient Tamil saint, one of the revered Pathinen Siddhargal (18 great Siddhas), known for his profound contributions to Siddha medicine, alchemy, and anthropology. He being an ardent devotee of lord Shiva was presented a woolen shirt “Kambali sattai” by Shiva himself. Since then, he was called “Kailaaya kambali sattaimuni”. He is considered a disciple of the great Siddhar Bogar and also studied under Sage Agastya. Since he learned under Siddhar Bogar, he grasped chemistry to the finer nuances. Soon he unfurled his ingenuity in the field of chemistry in transmuting base metals to higher level and in developing muppu and mercuric pills

    The Sattaimuni Siddhar Gurupooja celebration was celebrated on 15th of September 2025 at the Sri Siddhi Vinayagar Temple, Faculty of Siddha Medicine. The event was organized by the Siddha Medical Students’ Union, with guidance provided to Phase I BSMS students by academic staff of Department of Moolathathuvam.

    The ceremony began with the recitation of “Siddhar Vanakkam” by Phase I BSMS students Miss.S.Lukshana, honoring the revered lineage of Siddhars through devotional verses. A special speech on the life, spiritual wisdom, and medical contributions of Sattaimuni Siddhar was delivered by first-year student Master.S.Sivahajan.The talk highlighted Sattaimuni Siddhar’s profound impact on Siddha medicine, alchemy and spiritual
    justice. Sattaimuni Siddhar is known for his expertise in Siddha medicine, he authored “Sattaimuni Karpam-100,” a work on rejuvenation medicine followed by many even today.He produced 96 sutras related to alchemy (Rasavathavidya). His fundamental
    works in anthropology are held in high regard among the Siddhars. He is celebrated for his teachings and remedies aimed at balancing cosmic energies and restoring harmony.

  • KANAGARATHINAM SWAMI GURUPOOJA

    CELEBRATION – 2025

    Kanagarathinam swami Gurupooja celebration: 14th of September 2025
    Venue : Sri Siddhi Vinayagar Temple, Faculty of Siddha Medicine.

    Kanagarathinam swami is one of the most celebrated Siddhars in Jaffna,who was born in 1880 in Thirunelveli, South. Swamigal sought the path of wisdom not for himself but to alleviate the suffering of the people who were suffering.

    The Kanagarathinam swami Gurupooja celebration was celebrated on 14th of September 2025 at the Sri Siddhi Vinayagar Temple, Faculty of Siddha Medicine. The event was organized by the Siddha Medical Students’ Union, with guidance provided to Phase I BSMS students by academic staff of Department of Moolathathuvam.The ceremony began with the recitation of “Siddhar Vanakkam” by Phase I BSMS students Miss.S.Lukshana, honoring the revered lineage of Siddhars through devotional

    A special speech on the life, spiritual wisdom, and contributions to hindusium of Kanagarathinam swami was delivered by Phase I BSMS student Miss.S.Thulikshan The talk highlighted Kanagarathinam swami. The Sivagurunath Peedham in
    Tirunelveli was established by his disciple Mahadeva Swami to commemorate the work of his guru Kanagarathnam Swami, and he served as its first Paramacharya Guru. This Gurupooja served as a meaningful opportunity for students to deepen their connection to the Siddha tradition and honor the timeless wisdom of one of its most iconic sages.

  • EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO KANGUVELY AGASTHIYAR STHAPANAM,MUTTUR.

  • Experience Sharing Programme 

    The Department of Nanjiyal and Paramparai Maruthuvam , Faculty of Siddha Medicine,University of Jaffna, organized the Experience Sharing Programme” on the theme “Skills in the Management of Murivu Nerivu (Orthopedic) Conditions.” The resource person was Dr. Fernando Anthony, a registered traditional physician (SLAMC Reg. No. 9136), currently practicing in the Mannar District. The programme was conducted on 29th August 2025, from 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m., at the Faculty Auditorium. A total of 84 fourth BSMS students, together with the Head and academic staff of this Department, actively participated in the event.

    During the session, Dr. Anthony shared his extensive knowledge and experience in the treatment of ‘Murivu Nerivu’ conditions. His presentation encompassed clinical management strategies, demonstrations of practical approaches, and the integration
    of audiovisual resources, including relevant YouTube video materials.


    Feedback from the participants was collected through an online survey. The responses indicated a high level of satisfaction among the students, who expressed appreciation for the opportunity to gain practical insights from an experienced
    practitioner. Furthermore, many students conveyed their interest in visiting Dr.Anthony’s clinical practice in order to observe specialized treatment procedures directly.

  • Orientation -Academic year 2023/2024

    The orientation programme with inauguration ceremony for the academic year 2023/2024 will be commenced on 2025.10.02 from 7.30 am. All the students should be registered themselves at 7.30 am at the Faculty of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna, Kaithady on 02.10.2025.
