  • SIDDHAR RAMAVADEVAR GURUPOOJACELEBRATION -2026

    The Siddhar Ramavadevar gurupooja celebration was celebratedon04th ofMarch, 2026 at the Sri Siddhi Vinayagar Temple, Faculty of Siddha Medicine. Theevent was organized by the Siddha Medical Students’ Union, withguidanceprovided to Phase 1 BSMS students by academic staff of Department ofMoolathathuvam.

  • World Diabetes Day Awareness Programme

    A successful diabetes awareness initiative was held on December 22, 2025, at the Divisional Secretariat Office, Thenmarachchi. Organized by the Department of Gunapadam (University of Jaffna) in collaboration with the Provincial Commission of Indigenous Medicine, the event empowered over 200 participants—primarily DS staff—with the tools to combat diabetes through the wisdom of Siddha Medicine.


    Key Highlights of the Event

    • Expert Guidance: Academic staff from the Faculty of Siddha Medicine led insightful sessions on healthy food habits, lifestyle modifications, and the clinical use of medicinal plants.
    • Interactive Learning: Second-year BSMS students delivered engaging PowerPoint presentations and curated an exhibition of medicinal plants used for home remedies.
    • Community Health Checks: In a practical push for prevention, the Provincial Commission and Community Medical Officers provided random blood sugar testing for all beneficiaries.
  • Interfaculty Men’s and Women’s Carrom Championship 2026.

  • Common Merit List

    As per the request of IUA Division, University Grants Commission (UGC) to publish the Common Merit List among the Indigenous medicine of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani on website of Faculty of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna,
    We have annexed the common merit list (both proper and supplementary) which were previously prepared by the UGC for the academic years of 2010/2011, 2011/2012 & 2012/2013.
    It has been made after obtaining the approval of the Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna.

  • Agasthiyar Day Celebration – 2026

    Agasthiyar Day was celebrated on 6th January 2026 in observance of the auspicious Aajilia Nadchathiram, organized by the Siddha Medicine Students’ Union to honor Siddhar Agasthiyar, the Father of Siddha Medicine. The programme highlighted his vast contributions to Siddha medicine, preventive healthcare, spirituality, and holistic well-being.

    The event was held from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at the Pharmacy Hall, Siddha Teaching Hospital, Kaithady, and was graced by Dr. Mrs. Vivian Sathiyaseelan, Dean of the Faculty of Siddha Medicine, and Dr. B. Pirabaharan, Medical Officer In-charge, as chief guests. Faculty members, students, and non-academic staff actively participated.

    Phase I students, under the guidance of the Department of Moolathaththuvam, organized cultural and educational activities. These included a drama titled “Akilamae Agasthiyam”, depicting the life and legacy of Siddhar Agasthiyar, and a yoga demonstration featuring Sooriyanamaskaram and other asanas, emphasizing Siddha’s holistic health principles.

    The programme was effectively coordinated by Dr. Mrs. Sujeethasai Krishna, Dr. I. M. Lakshika, Ms. J. Kavipriya, and Ms. A. Anushiyaa. Overall, the celebration was successful, educational, and spiritually enriching, reinforcing the importance of preserving and promoting the Siddha system of medicine.

  • Plantation Day 2025

    Plantation Day 2025 was successfully held on 26th November 2025 (Wednesday) from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon at the Bohar Hall, Faculty of Siddha Medicine. The event was organized jointly by the Department of Gunapadam, Faculty of Siddha Medicine and the Department of Indigenous Medicine, Northern Province, in celebration of the National Plantation Day observed on 15th November 2025.

  • WORLD DIABETES DAY – 2025 AWARENESS PROGRAM AT MOOLAI CO- OPERATIVE HOSPITAL

    Key highlights

    1. Awareness presentation on Diabetes Mellitus
    2. Awareness Presentation & Speech on Diabetes control through small millets
    3. Awareness Presentation on Incorporating local medicinal herbs into daily diet for Diabetes control
    4. Awareness Demonstration on Yoga asanas, pranayama techniques & specific mudras
      for Diabetes control and stress management
    5. Management of diabetes-related complications – Integrated Western & Siddha treatment approaches
    6. Provided Kambu porridge and kambu laddu
    7. Exhibition – Local medicinal herbs for Diabetes control
    8. Exhibition – Small millets & small millets based products for Diabetes control

    The Diabetes Awareness Program was jointly organized by the Department of Samooga Nala Maruthuvam, FOSM, UOJ, and Diabetic centre Moolai Co-operative Hospital on 16th of November 2025 from 9.00 AM to 1.30 PM. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, followed by a Siddhar vanakka paadal rendered by the Ist BSMS students Ms.V.Dalshika and Ms.P.ThuruziyaSubsequently, the welcome address was delivered by the Moolai Co-operative Hospital matron Mr.S.Giritharan formally marking the beginning of the program. The keynote address was delivered by the Dr.K.Partheepan, secretary of Moolai Co-operative Hospital.

    Following this, a detailed presentation was conducted on the causes of diabetes, the methods
    for testing blood glucose levels, and the measures to effectively control blood glucose levels by
    the Dr.G.Sambavi Medical officer, Moolai Co-operative Hospital. After that, an awareness role
    play on diabetes and its complications was performed by the nursing officers, Moolai Co
    operative Hospital. Following this, Dr.T.Thayalini, Senior lecturer and Head of the Dept, Samooga Nala Maruthuvam, FOSM, UOJ delivered an informative Presentation session on diabetes control &
    prevention through the inclusion of small millets in the diet. Next, the awareness program continued with a Ist BSMS student Mr.Barathkrishna’s presentation, which included a detailed explanation on diabetes control and prevention through the use of medicinal herbs in day to day diet plan. A valuable and impactful diabetes awareness drama on “FOOD IS MEDICINE” was thoughtfully performed by the Ist BSMS students, effectively conveying key messages on diabetes prevention and management through healthy life style.

    After that, a detailed demonstration was conducted by the Dr.T.Janany , Siddha medical officer
    and the 4th BSMS students Ms.B.Sruthi, Ms.E.Nivoncy & Ms.R.Rasmini on special yoga asanas,
    breathing exercises, and therapeutic mudras that help in the control and prevention of diabetes.
    The event also featured an effective exhibition of small millets and millet-based products,
    organized by the Palluer millet processing and value-added units.

    A brief explanation of the diabetes control & prevention through the inclusion of small millets in the diet and health benefits of these products was provided to the audience by the,4th BSMS students under the guidance of demonstrator Ms.A.Anushiyaa FOSM,UOJ along with the distribution of leaflets containing simple small millets based diet recipes. A brief explanation and exhibition of medicinal plants used for the control and prevention of diabetes, presented by the Ist BSMS students under the guidance of demonstrators Ms.T.Vithuja & Ms.P.Shabika. Finally the event concluded with vote of thanks delivered by the Dr.Brunthaban, Medical officer, Moolai Co-operative Hospital.
